Mastercard 2-Series BIN
Mastercard added a new series of credit card numbers called the 2-series. Magento checkout software must be 2-series ready by June 30, 2017.
Mastercard has added a new series of credit card numbers called the 2-series. Until now, Mastercard Bank Identification Numbers (BIN) started with a 5. For example, 5424-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx. Starting this year, Mastercard is issuing cards in the 22-27 range. For example, 2721-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx.
Mastercard BINs
All webpage checkout software must be 2-series ready by June 30, 2017. As of June 30, 2017, Mastercard may fine merchants who do not support cards that use this new range of BIN numbers, and transactions on your store for customers using cards with these new BINs may fail.
Magento 1 customers must apply a patch or set of patches depending on your software version. Magento 2 customers should upgrade or patch manually.
The following Magento versions are affected:
- All Magento 1 versions below CE 1.9.3.0 and EE 1.14.3.0
- All Magento 2 versions below 2.1.3 (2.0.0 – 2.0.13, and 2.1.0-2.1.2)
If you are running Magento 1.9.3.0 or higher, or 2.1.3 or higher, you are not affected.
Upgrading is Best
Although you can patch your store, we do recommend upgrading to the latest versions of Magento whenever possible. These newer versions contain important updates, enhancements, security patches, and more.
